Large-Part 5-Axis CNC Machining

Mill-turn and 5-axis machining for large, complex industrial components on Mazak INTEGREX equipment.

5-Axis Machining at a glance

CBM Precision Parts provides 5-axis CNC machining and mill-turn capabilities for complex industrial components. Our Mazak INTEGREX equipment combines turning and milling operations to support precision manufacturing of large, demanding parts while reducing the need for multiple setups.

Published capacities include 42 in OD × 240 in length on the INTEGREX e-670H II, 78 in OD turning on the INTEGREX e-1550 and 72 × 98 × 98 in on the INTEGREX e-1850V/12 II.

5-axis machining capabilities

What our Mazak INTEGREX machines do, as documented for each machine.

The INTEGREX e-1850V/12 II combines full 5-axis machining, vertical turning and pallet changing to process large, highly complex parts. Its two-pallet changer lets an operator load, unload and inspect a part on one pallet while the machine works on the other.

On the horizontal INTEGREX e-670H II, the B-axis milling spindle supports both indexed positioning and contouring, and the C-axis is driven by a drop-worm system in 0.0001-degree increments. A fully programmable, servo-driven steady rest and tailstock support long workpieces.

Depending on the part, features can be machined with indexed positioning or with contouring motion. Either way, turning, milling, boring and drilling are completed on the same machine.

Applications for complex industrial components

Parts that suit multi-tasking machines.

The INTEGREX line is built for heavy, large-diameter, shaft-type workpieces and for large, highly complex parts. Mazak lists aerospace, heavy construction and energy among the industries that use these machines, and CBM serves all three.

  • Shaft-type workpieces on the e-670H II (42 in OD × 240 in length capacity)
  • 78 in OD turning on the e-1550
  • Large, complex parts on the e-1850V/12 II (72 × 98 × 98 in capacity)
  • Repeat parts that benefit from pallet changing
  • 5-axis prototypes
  • Parts that need turned and milled features in one setup

Why combine milling and turning?

Fewer setups

Turning, milling, boring and drilling are completed in a single setup instead of moving the part from machine to machine.

Less handling

Moving a heavy part across several workstations introduces inaccuracies. Keeping it on one machine removes those transfers and the work-in-process between them.

Better access

A B-axis milling spindle that indexes or contours reaches angled faces and features that would otherwise need another fixture.

What 5-axis work covers

Large, complex parts finished with fewer setups.

Common questions

What 5-axis machines does CBM run?

Five Mazak INTEGREX machines are listed for 5-axis machining: the e-1850V/12 II, e-670H II, INTEGREX 650, e-1550 and e-1550V/10 II. An INTEGREX 50Y/1500 is listed with the CNC lathes.

What capacities does CBM publish for its INTEGREX machines?

Published capacities include 72 × 98 × 98 in on the INTEGREX e-1850V/12 II, 78 in OD turning on the e-1550, and 42 in OD × 240 in length on the e-670H II. Final fit depends on weight, geometry and fixturing, so send the drawing and we will confirm.

What materials can CBM machine?

Metals and plastics, including 300-series and 410 stainless steel, aluminum, carbon and alloy steels such as 4140 and 4340, Inconel, Hastelloy X, Waspaloy and titanium. Include the material and grade with your RFQ.

Do I need a 3D model to get a quote?

No. Drawings, 3D models or photos all work. If no drawing exists, our engineering department can reverse engineer the part. Programming is done in house in Esprit and Edgecam.

How are 5-axis parts inspected?

QC technicians inspect parts before delivery with FARO laser tracking and portable CMM arms. FARO CMM reports of critical features are available when required.

How do I request a quote?
